eldritchgriffin:
It’s fun to joke about Jonathan’s “how am I going to shave now,” but I also want to point out that it isn’t that odd of a reaction. Maybe it’s just me, but do you ever have a moment where you’re freaking out, but there’s also a part of your mind that’s just. Thinking about what you should eat or what you’ll do when you’ve calmed down. He may be prisoner in a castle with a creepy count, but he also has to think about the practical realities of day to day life. He has to eat, sleep, and dress himself regardless of the situation. Yes, he’s terrified. But he also has hours of time in-between encounters with Dracula. Shaving may just be a minor annoyance by comparison, but there’s not much he can do about the Drac situation right now. There’s an aspect of controlling what you can. Jonathan constantly talks about how he’s a prisoner, and he has to follow along with the Count. Shaving is something he does that the Count doesn’t control. It’s a habit, and now that comfort and control over his appearance is gone. How is he going to shave; how is he going to take care of himself; how is he going to regain control of his life, it’s all tied up together. Let him worry about the mirror, so he doesn’t have to think about whether he’s going to make it out alive
